Sr. Manager, Mechanical Engineering
ABOUT THE ROLE
Peloton hardware collaborates with many cross functional teams to build the next generation of Peloton Connected Devices and sustain our current products. We are building new experiences
and products that will drive future growth of the company. Peloton Mechanical Engineering Managers are responsible for building, guiding and growing the engineering teams that design and create our innovative fitness products. As a Mechanical
Engineering Manager you will recruit and hire employees, build and maintain processes and standards for the team and encourage a culture of collaboration and innovation.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background, have successfully launched newproducts and has team leadership experience.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
● Manage and develop a team of mechanical engineers that support the Peloton business
● Lead employees through performance reviews and goal setting exercises
● Develop staffing plans to meet business and product goals
● Contribute to organizational road map planning both short and long term.
● Interview and select engineering talent to staff team
● Motivate and drive a continuous performance-based culture within the team. Provide
adequate management support for the team in the form of team meetings, 1:1’s and
other forums as needed to support the group and individual development objectives of
team members
● Shepard working teams through business critical issues and escalations
● Collaborate with other Product Leaders in the continuous improvement of the product
development process, department and function processes, design tools and templates
● Create and maintain engineering standards
● Implement best practices in DFM and failure analysis and mentor the team in these
practices
● Collaborate with cross-functional team members from Manufacturing, Program
Management, Engineering Program Management, HW Systems Engineering, Industrial
Design, and Product Quality to deliver against quarterly roadmap objectives.
● Identify cross-functional dependencies and remove blockers when needed
● Collaborate with a global network of suppliers throughout the product life cycle
THESE MAY DESCRIBE YOU:
● 12+ years mechanical design engineering experience
● 4+ years managing engineering teams
● B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
● Product development experience in the fitness industry or similarly complex mechanisms
● Experience in leading engineering teams through all phases of the product life cycle
● Experience working with Contract Manufacturers and/or JDMs
● Experience with core manufacturing methods including sheet metal stamping, welding,
injection molding, machining and casting
● Experience with test and measurement tools and fixturing
● Great attention to engineering detail
● Ability to identify strengths and growth opportunities for team members; coach and
mentor in these areas
● Ability to mediate between competing product and technical priorities; align priorities and
goals through collaboration with technical leads and other cross functional team
managers
● Experience in defining engineering design and tool release processes and executing
accordingly.
● Spoken and written English
BONUS CAPABILITIES:
● Experience in quality management and quality systems
● Power transmission product application: drive belts, pulleys, bearings
● Process engineering experience
● Finite Element Analysis experience
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH:
● You will report to the Director of Mechanical Engineering
● You will work cross functionally with many teams including Engineering Program
Management, Operations, Quality, Electrical Engineering, Firmware Engineering, and
Industrial Design.
