ABOUT THE ROLE

Peloton E-commerce Engineering is looking for software engineering managers to help mature our technology from startup to scale-up. We are rapidly evolving our product and marketing strategies, and we need to build flexible tooling to support our business partners. As an EM, your role will be to steer your team’s roadmap in a direction that realistically accommodates the needs of the business while following the campsite rule of “leave things better than you found them”. From a technical perspective, your job is about cutting down on complexity rather than heroically maintaining it. There are “next-gen” leaders on every team, and we want you to grow them.

There are a few key areas we may need you, so it will help to think about where you’re best suited:
Subscriptions and billing. This will be a backend-heavy role. We are building an event-driven microservice to migrate off a legacy monolith.
“Top of funnel” e-comm pages. This will be a frontend-heavy role. Your team will work with schema-driven development tools within a large NextJS frontend monorepo.
Content ops. This will involve integrating with vendors like Contentful and Optimizely to provide self-service tools for running experiments, building new pages, and running promotions.

The ideal candidate should have some experience with high-growth startups and larger enterprise environments since we’re a mix of both. Cross-functional and cross-team collaboration will be a big part of your job, so diplomacy is important. You’ll need to develop mental maps of complicated systems, have the architectural vision for simplifying them within our constraints, and then execute safely and observably. YOUR DAILY IMPACT AT PELOTON

  • Staff and manage a team of engineers responsible for developing and improving the customer engagement experience for the e-commerce (and more) website(s)
  • Motivate and drive a continuous performance-based culture within the team
  • Provide management support for the team in the form of team meetings to support the group and individual development objectives of team members
  • Collaborate with multi-functional team members from Design, Product, Program Management, and UX in order to deliver against quarterly and annual roadmap objectives
  • Establish team-level performance indicators to measure the efficiency of the team’s output and impact to customer engagement
  • Instill a culture of automation, re-use and engineering efficiency through the use of software design patterns and leveraging commercial, off the shelf tools
  • Identify multi-functional dependencies and remove blockers when needed across engineering, design, and product management
  • Enable and sustain the culture of open communication and collaboration across the engagement organization
  • Achieve timely delivery without compromising quality

YOU BRING TO PELOTON

  • 5+ years of software development experience in web development, web architecture, and / or full stack development
  • Demonstrable experience in having deployed applications commercially into production
  • 3+ years of leadership experience in technology management
  • Experience delivering full stack web product collaborating with Design, UX, Project Management, and Product Management
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and how to incorporate test automation into development flows
  • Experience working with Agile methodology and delivery of quality software as part of an Agile team
  • Ability to identify strength and weakness of individuals in order to maximize team effectiveness and provide guidance to individuals when needed for coaching or mentoring
  • Ability to mediate between competing product and technical priorities and align priorities and goals through collaboration with technical leads and product managers
  • Effectively communicate between teams and within teams in order to drive alignment and increase effectiveness on delivery

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position based at our New York City headquarters. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual performance, business objectives, and if the location for the job changes. Base Salary Range
$172,100—$223,800 USD
