Senior Staff Software Engineer

A successful candidate in this role will provide technical expertise across many applications. You will represent the technical front-end strategies and systems that engage users, create immersive experiences and leverage industry best practices. As a domain expert you’ll lead the way in defining new strategies, paths to improvement and unlocking new capabilities for users and stakeholders alike. You should be comfortable proposing and driving alignment on technical direction and vision across engineering teams.
It is important that you have a mix of excellent technical, analytical, program management, and communications skills. You are a strong leader, a compassionate listener, and you can explain complex ideas to executive audiences in understandable ways. You are driven to mature the organization’s thinking and execution.

Our e-commerce engineers build software to support our business partners, including sales, marketing, accounting, logistics, operations, and studio. We are looking for a motivated staff software engineer with the drive to lead our e-commerce front-end technical strategy and implementations.
YOUR DAILY IMPACT AT PELOTON
- Drive front-end, technical vision for the Ecommerce engineering team, aligning with company-wide strategies and goals.
- Produce designs and strategies that take into account multiple factors: Performance, Scalability, SEO, Resilience, Observability, Testability and a clean Separation of Concerns.
- Be responsible for identifying, defining and providing a position on design tradeoffs taking into consideration the needs of the technology and the needs of the business.
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Partner with other engineering teams to implement new architecture and design patterns.
- Demonstrate relentless focus for quality and timely delivery
- As a leader, influence developers and senior leadership to establish, maintain and govern standards with respect to front-end development.
YOU BRING TO PELOTON
- 7+ years of experience
- 5+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
- Extensive experience in front-end frameworks and systems
- ReactJS, NextJS (or others like Angular, Svelte, etc)
- GraphQL (or others like CubeJS, Neptune, etc)
- Redux (or others like Context API, etc.)
- Passionate about technology, new ideas, and always willing to learn new things.
- Experience working with Product Management to create a shared understanding of the technical components involved.
- Ability to contribute consistently and positively in a high-paced, fast-changed environment.
- Analytical and creative problem solver, with the flexibility to accommodate evolving business needs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Proficiency in TypeScript.
- Deep understanding of performance optimization, caching, and security considerations.
- Familiarity with back-end technologies like Node.js, Python, or Java.
Base Salary: $245,300.00 to $277,300.00
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position based at our New York City headquarters. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual performance, business objectives, and if the location for the job changes.
